Souvenirs for Piano Trio, Op.132 No.3

Ludvig Schytte (1848-1909) was born in the Danish city of Aarhus. After studying pharmacy, he switched to music and studied piano in Copenhagen with Eduard Neupert. Later he studied composition with Niels Gade. Subsequently, he traveled to Germany and briefly studied privately with Franz Liszt. Afterwards, he moved to Vienna where he lived for more than 20 years, teaching and composing, mostly works for piano.

Souvenirs was the third of a set of four pieces in a work titled Petite Suites. It was composed in 1903 and the only set of pieces he wrote for piano trio. The work is in three movements--Allegro, Andante and Allegro. The third movement is, to a certain extent, a reprise of the first. The beautiful and evocative music speaks for itself.
