Three Pieces for String Quartet

The Three Pieces for String Quartet. These were arranged from a four-hands on one piano version finished in 1918. The three movements are entitled Danse, Eccentrique and Cantique. They are a kind of adaption of Russian tunes, with varying moods. The first pieces is a kind of rustic dance played by busking street performers. The second pieces, according to scholars, was inspired by Stravinsky's meeting of a clown known as Little Tich whose antics greatly impressed the composer. In the last piece, Stravinsky waxes liturgical, giving his take on Russian Orthodox music.

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), one of the most famous and influential composers of the 20th century, needs no introduction. He wrote in virtually every genre but is perhaps best remembered for his ground-breaking ballet music.
